On a Nature walk, we noticed hundreds of butterflies gathered on a Copper Pod tree (Peltophorum sp.). The species included Double-Branded Crows (Euploea sylvester), Striped Tigers (Danaus genutia) and Blue Tigers (Tirumala sp.).

All these butterflies belong to Danainae sub-family of Nymphalids. These butterflies are well known for their migration to the hills and back to the plains before/after the monsoon rains. No one really knows the exact reason why they migrate.

This video of the butterflies was captured in Lalbagh Botanical Gardens, Bangalore.
